ART & Cultural Design

Our cultural institutional work has included installations, major museum competition proposals, performing arts retail commissions, and spaces for performance and studio art. Each project begins somewhere unexpected; it could be a craft technique learned from a dying trade, a perceptual illusion borrowed from experimental film, or a building type pushed so far from its origins that it becomes something else entirely. We are equally at home with artificial intelligence and thatch, with the vernacular and the avant-garde. The work that results tends to be formally hybrid, perceptually active, and resistant to easy categorization.

Projects

“Strangeness abounds in this proposal to add on to an existing barn. The design, with its lofted shingle roof, is a hybrid cultivated from architectural references like New England barns, Gwathmey modernism, and contemporary formalisms. The resulting spaces, expertly rendered, are weird and compelling.”
