Index-Design Features LAMAS’ Virgin Vineyard House in Quebec’s Eastern Townships
Virgin Vineyard House by LAMAS was featured in Index-Design in the article “Virgin Vineyard House: l’intergénérationnelle.” The project, located in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, is presented as a contemporary rural residence shaped by the agricultural landscape surrounding Lake Massawippi.
The feature focuses on the house’s relationship to vernacular architecture and sustainable building strategies, highlighting its long linear organization, fieldstone wall, and integration into the hillside vineyard site. Index-Design describes how the project draws from local agricultural forms—particularly stone walls, deep overhangs, and elongated farm structures—to create a contemporary residence rooted in the material and spatial traditions of the region.
The project is organized around a continuous stone wall that shelters the house from the road and northern winds while structuring the sequence of spaces along its length. Rotated room geometries and a sawtooth plan orient views toward the lake and vineyard, creating a series of distinct interior volumes beneath a singular roof form. The feature also highlights the project’s use of locally sourced materials, high-performance wood construction, and geothermal systems as part of its broader environmental approach.
