Delirious Facade Wins Research Award at 2019 AN Best of Design Awards
Delirious Facade by LAMAS received the Research category award at The Architect’s Newspaper 2019 Best of Design Awards. The project was recognized in December 2019 as part of AN’s annual program celebrating architectural work across research, design, and practice-based experimentation. The awards program highlighted a broad range of projects, with research selected as a distinct category alongside built work and unbuilt proposals.
The Architects Newspaper Best of Design Awards evaluate submissions through a jury process that recognizes work for its contribution to contemporary architectural discourse, including experimental methods, emerging technologies, and non-built forms of practice. Within the Research category, the focus is on projects that expand architectural thinking through speculative, analytical, or computational approaches rather than constructed outcomes. Delirious Facade was recognized for its exploration of image-based and computational techniques applied to architectural representation.
The project develops a system for generating and manipulating architectural facade imagery using digital processes, questioning how architectural identity is constructed through repetition, variation, and visual translation. Rather than proposing a built object, it operates as a research framework for testing how facade language can be produced and transformed through algorithmic and image-based methods.
