Avling Kitchen & Brewery Recognized at 2019 AN Best of Design Awards

Avling Kitchen & Brewery by LAMAS received an Honorable Mention in the Building Renovation (Commercial) category at The Architect’s Newspaper 2019 Best of Design Awards. The project is located in Toronto, Canada, and was recognized in December 2019 as part of AN’s annual program celebrating architectural and design excellence across North America.

The Architects Newspaper Best of Design Awards highlight projects selected by a jury across a wide range of categories, with Building Renovation (Commercial) focusing on adaptive reuse work that transforms existing commercial structures through architectural intervention, programmatic change, and spatial upgrade. The 2019 awards emphasized context-driven and materially considered renovations that reframe existing buildings rather than replace them.

Avling Kitchen & Brewery is a transformation of a mid-century commercial building in Toronto’s east end, originally constructed in the late 1940s and later used for food-related production. The renovation reworks the existing structure to support a combined program of brewing, dining, and rooftop agriculture, introducing new spatial openings and structural modifications to accommodate production and public use within a single continuous environment.
