Dwell Before & After: Garrison Creek House
LAMAS’ Garrison Creek House in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood was featured in Dwell+, in a “Before & After” article by Rachel Gallaher. The project is presented as a renovation of a 1914 home on a triangular urban lot, originally shaped by its mature landscape setting and proximity to the University of Toronto.
The feature focuses on the condition of the existing house prior to renovation, including structural issues linked to foundation movement and damage from an adjacent tree, and the subsequent architectural response to stabilize and rework the building. The article describes how the renovation retains the original character of the house while addressing structural instability and reconfiguring internal organization to improve light, circulation, and spatial clarity.
The project reflects an approach to working within existing residential fabric through targeted structural repair and interior reorganization rather than full reconstruction. The design introduces new spatial relationships while maintaining continuity with the house’s original footprint and neighbourhood context, resulting in a renewed domestic interior grounded in its existing conditions.
