LAMAS Proposes “Nowhere, Now Here” for Art Museum at the University of Toronto
LAMAS developed Nowhere, Now Here as an exhibition proposal for the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto. The project appears within the museum’s archive of curatorial and exhibition proposals, which highlights speculative and unrealized exhibition concepts alongside realized programming.
The proposal situates itself within the museum’s mandate of supporting innovative, research-driven, and interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary art and exhibition-making across its two campus galleries. It is framed as part of a broader curatorial exploration of how space, narrative, and architectural conditions can shape the presentation and interpretation of artistic work.
Within this context, LAMAS’ proposal reflects its ongoing interest in spatial storytelling and representational systems, using the exhibition format as a site for architectural thinking. The work engages the gallery not only as a neutral container, but as an active spatial and conceptual framework through which ideas of site, perception, and constructed environments are explored.
