GARRISON CREEK HOUSE
Built in 1914 on landfill, this house rests over Garrison Creek, 30 feet below. Due to the fact that its foundation is on fill, the house experienced significant differential settlement, resulting in an 8-inch slope of the interior floors. Occupying a flat iron site shaped by the creek, the house boasts three front doors, drawing views to wildflower borders. The architects used the foundation work to add floor height, an independent entry, and reconfigure the interior for two bathrooms, a bedroom, home office, and TV room. The interior design features contextual ornamentation, including a deco mantle, custom trim, baseboards, and a distinct ceiling pattern. Playful elements include differing master bathroom sinks, skylights, and glazing units lighting the owner's office with garden views.
